Chief of Shanghai Chemical Industry	Xu Qiutang Association

Shanghai Chemical Industry Association had been founded on June 18,1997,and the social origination was voluntarily joined by the enterprises, facilities and the mass organization, who are engaged in chemical production, manufacturing, management, construction, research and development, education, design and service activities etc. At the present, the Association has owned more than 300 member units of the stated owned enterprises, collective enterprises, Joint stock companies, joint venture and private enterprises. These member units are respectively engaged in petroleum processing, coking, chemical raw materials, chemical fertilizers, chemical insecticides, paints and coating, dyestuff and pigment, plastics products, synthetic materials, chemical reagent and auxiliaries, household chemical products, biological products, chemical fiber and rubber products.

The Association is now practicing the membership system, the is two sections of council and standing council under the Association, and is practicing the Chairmen charge system under the leadership by the standing council. The Chairman is Mr. Xu Qiu Tang Some leaders, senior specialists and social celebrities who are care of the development of the chemical industry trade was engaged as honorary Chairmen and advisor by the Association.

There are the standing working committee and the specialty committee under the Association. The Association work for studying the developing direction, layout and strategically target of the trade, promoting the superiority for the products, technology and organization of the trade, making the statistical investigation and collecting and releasing the information of the trade; safeguarding the legal right and interests of the member units, coordinating the relationship of the parties concerned and bring forward the suggestion for the policy and legislation; participating in working out and revising the standards of the trade, assisting the check up, granting the licenses for the production, sponsoring the making appraisals for the scientific research projects and achievements; promoting the technologies of the trade and the superiority for the administration, safeguarding the fair competition, coordinating the relationship of the supply and demand, and organizing the craft brothers to negotiate the prices; pushing the economic development of the export oriented chemical industry, sponsoring the meeting of the order goods, exhibition and fair; setting up the information network and the publication of the association, and developing the public welfare cause: strengthening the international communication and exchange, launching the international economic exchange and cooperation, and playing a role of the mediate organization for the technology importing and exporting of the enterprises and for the joint venture and cooperative management.

Under the leadership of the Shanghai Municipal Economic Committee, the Association will become the bridge and the link between the government and the enterprises and will practice the socialized administration on Shanghai Chemical Industry Trade. The Association will become the coordinating and service organ of the enterprises and will become the mediate organization of the market and the non-profit and self-disciplined social group legal representative.

As the first large Trade Association, we shall render a good service to the trade, the government and the members of the Association, under the reform of the economic system, seeking continually, marching forward.
